The project represents a building from the early 20th century in the heart of Aalborg, a city in nothern Denmark. The area of the project "Aalborg Vestby" has its own identity with the mid-rise semi-detached brick facade houses, so inherent to the classic Danish building style. The building site is positioned on Borgergade 28 with its 41/2 stories and a habitable basement, which also hauses a small commercial area. The building has saved its original outer look through the years, thus being in complete harmony with the surroundings. It carries the old spirit of classic Danish housingm yet looking unworn. On the other hand the project needs extensive renovation, in order to comply with the modern needs and lifestyle.

Reports and analysis

The main aim during this semester was to obtain the ability to evaluate a building built in the early 20th century and find the aspects of it that need renovation. In order to improve the energy and overall performance of the building, it was important to go through detailed comparison of different material options. Doing comprehensive heatloss calculations for the extension of the building was an essential part of this semester, so as to demonstrate the enhancement in the building performance.
