Single family house

2nd semester

Semester project: Villa M

Villa M is a single family house, designed as a balanced mixture between typical Danish brick housing and modern minimalistic elements. It consists of a ground floor with thoughtfully arranged layout and a basement with vinery, specially adapted to the client’s preferences.
What differentiates this project from traditional housing is the fact that it is built as a passive house.
Enlarged thickness of insulation and triple glazed windows are just few of the features that make this structure energy efficient with the lowest possible ecological footprint.

Passive house concept

When a building is to be fitted in a certain energy frame, the construction details should be carefully designed in early stage as a combination between traditional construction methods and improved innovative ideas. All sorts of creative new ideas were welcome in the search of better solutions for airtight building envelope and cold bridge avoidance.

Construction details

This semester we were introduced to the usage and specific features of prefabricated concrete slabs and supproting steal beams. As part of my working group and my personal interests in passive house design, we worked closely with innovative construction products such as the cold bridge avoiding cavity closer and special triple glazed windows.
